We recently caught up with 2012 Olympic all-around champion Gabrielle Douglas to discuss her World Championships experience, future plans and upgrades, and more!

Inside Gymnastics: Tell us about your experience at Worlds!
Gabrielle Douglas: I was super excited to be selected as a member of the 2015 World Championship Team. It was one of my goals this year, and I’m very happy that I accomplished it!

I had the best time competing with my teammates in Scotland. Winning the gold medal with them in team finals was awesome! We were all jumping up and down and hugging each other. It’s such an amazing feeling!

It was equally exciting when I qualified to the all-around finals and won the silver medal.
I was so very happy that my family could be there. They weren’t able to come when I competed at the 2011 World Championships, so having them in Scotland was very important for me.

Overall, this competition was a huge success for me.

Inside: What was it like to be competing at a major event again?
Gabrielle: It was great to be back out there competing at World Championships again! I’m very glad to see that all my efforts in training are paying off in the gym and in competition. Even though it requires so much hard work and dedication, l love everything about this journey.

Inside: What are your training plans for the rest of the year?
Gabrielle: This year I plan to work on getting my routines more consistent while also adding in more difficult skills.

Inside: Will you be competing at the 2016 American Cup?
Gabrielle: I would love to compete at American Cup, I can’t say for sure if I will be there, but it is definitely one of my goals!

Inside: When do you think you’ll unveil your Amanar vault?
Gabrielle: Next year I will compete my Amanar vault again.

Inside: Do you have any other upgrades/new skills in mind for next year?
Gabrielle: I do! And I plan to show them next year, so stay tuned! 🙂

Inside: Is there anything else you’d like to share?
Gabrielle: I am so excited for the next competition season! I believe this year was a major success for me and I’m so ready to accomplish more in my gymnastics career. I have been working so hard to prove to myself that I could really do this again. I know that I have so much more in me and I am going to give my all again next year! I am determined to make that 2016 Olympic team!
