Minneapolis-Bound
On May 14, 2020 Olympian Yul Moldauer posted a photo on Instagram captioned: “These next 7 weeks are everything.” No words perfectly encapsulate the emotion, pressure and excitement these athletes are feeling as they prepare to embark on the journey of their lives. Years and years of training now all come down to moments. F
rom Louisville to Hartford to Fort Worth and countless competitions before, in Minneapolis five men and five women will earn their ticket to Paris. In her infinite wisdom, 1984 team silver medalist and balance beam bronze medalist Kathy Johnson Clarke congratulated the 16 women and 20 men who will compete in Minneapolis and also those athletes whose journeys ended in Fort Worth. “And may we also recognize and celebrate the remarkable gymnasts who took their final bow in their 2024 Olympic year journey at the Xfinity Championships?” And then invited everyone on social media to do the same.
The 2024 quad has been historic to say the very, very least. Records have been set that may never be broken as the U.S. men and women field their most decorated teams to date. Trials will be the culmination of so many dreams yes, but more importantly so many journeys, which ultimately is what they will remember most. And so, as we celebrate all of the athletes for what they’ve brought to the sport and recognize those who will take the floor in Minneapolis to fulfill a dream only they know best, we remember, it’s their story to tell and their time to shine. To All of the Athletes, We Salute You.
