Johnson on Gym: "Definitely Something I'm Planning"
June 27, 2009Shawn Johnson hasn’t given up on gymnastics, not by a long shot, but she might have to put her plans on hold for some big news coming soon.
“I’ve got some things I’m really excited about,” she teased Thursday in a chat with Inside, “but I’m not sure what I can release yet. I’ll let [my fans] know as soon as I can though. Promise!”
Johnson concedes the surprise project(s) are “entertainment-related, yeah,” but that doesn’t mean she’s ready to call it quits on gymnastics.
“I hired a personal trainer and I’m working out really hard right now,” she insists. “In fact, I just got back from a training session.
“I knew I needed to get back into shape, get prepared, before I get back in the gym,” she says. “That’s definitely something I’m planning on doing. Definitely.”
As more and more showbiz and sponsorship opportunities flood the “Dancing with the Stars” champ’s in-box on a daily basis, does spending the time it takes to prosper at Elite gymnastics seem an ever-more daunting prospect?
“I don’t know,” Johnson hedged. “I know it’s something I love and I have a big belief in fate. I think that all of these opportunities are happening for a reason, and I think that whatever happens—whatever path I choose—will work out for the best. I think things happen that are meant to be.”
Johnson’s next stop is this weekend's Hy-Vee Triathlon in her hometown of Des Moines, Iowa.
“I’m not competing, I’m just, you know, [hosting],” Johnson says of the event put on by her longtime Iowa-based sponsor. “Before Dancing I was actually signed up and planning to do it—I was training for it and everything—but I just didn’t have the time to get ready after Dancing got started.”
On Monday, Johnson was back in Los Angeles for the "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" premiere—which she Tweeted (@ShawneyJ) was the "best movie ever"—walking the red carpet and mingling with celebs. This week, Johnson will be at International Gymnastics Camp in Pennsylvania.
“Yeah, back to my roots,” Johnson jests of returning to a gym environment. “I still feel more comfortable [in the gym,] but I’m getting there with [Hollywood events]. But it’s still so exciting and amazing to have these opportunities that, you know, not very many people get.”
Johnson will likely have lots more time to adjust, as the spotlight on the gymnastics/reality TV darling is unlikely to dim anytime soon.
