What would you say to Alicia Sacramone if you had the chance to talk to her after the Olympics? – Kara, via email

I just finished taping Frosted Pink with a Twist with Alicia, a show to create awareness for cancers that primarily affect women. She will also be joining the Tour of Gymnastics Superstars on the east coast. It’s been great to see her out performing again. I think as a gymnast you know that sometimes you’re going to have an off day. You can train and train, hitting every routine in the gym, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out the way you want it to.

I could tell her that I fell three times in one balance beam routine at World Championships in 1993, or remind her that I was off step in vault finals at the 1996 Olympic Games and flew over the horse to my rear in front of everyone. But she already knows that these things happen. What’s most important is how she moves forward. People identify with her because she is real. Real people make mistakes. She also has an amazing opportunity to be a role model for young athletes. It’s important to know that you’re not defined by your mistakes, but how you pick yourself up and keep going. Alicia is a wonderful example of grace and maturity.
