Wieber Edges Douglas for National Title

Defending Champ Jordyn Wieber edged Gabrielle Douglas for the title of U.S. National Champion by a slim two-tenths of a point margin (121.900 to 121.700 two-day total) in St. Louis at the 2012 VISA Championships. Aly Raisman earned bronze. The stylish Kyla Ross earned fourth. All four were members of the 2011 World Championship team that earned gold in Tokyo last year.

“I was so excited to come out and do well…and feel my hard work is paying off,” Wieber said following the competition.

Elizabeth Price, Sarah Finnegan, Kennedy Baker, Sabrina Vega, Brenna Dowell and 2008 Olympian Bridget Sloan rounded out the top ten.

All ten will advance to the 2012 Olympic Team Trials in San Jose at the end of this month. Also earning tickets to Trials are Alicia Sacramone, Anna Li, Nastia Liukin, Rebecca Bross, and McKayla Maroney.

Individual national champions this year are:
