Orozco Crowned National Champ!
By Chris Korotky & Team
Coming full circle after tearing his Achilles at the 2010
VISA Championships, John Orozco of the United States Olympic Training Center
came from behind to claim the 2012 National title.
“I can’t even describe how I feel like now,” Orozco said
after the competition.“[Danell Leyva] gave me such a great fight. I just want
to say I love you, mom and dad. My mom has been sick in the hospital
recently…and I’m so grateful she got to come out and watch me compete. I love
her so much.”
Defending Champ Leyva (Universal) earned silver and Sam
Mikulak (Michigan) claimed bronze. Two-time National Champ Jon Horton,
competing on his surgically-repaired foot following an injury at last year’s
World Championships, came back strong, earning fourth. Jacob Dalton, Chris
Brooks, Paul Ruggeri, Glen Ishino, Alex Buscaglia and Steve Legendre rounded
out the top ten.
The National Team and competitors who advance
to the Olympic Trials will be announced this afternoon. The field is expected
to be narrowed from 33 to 15.
