USA Women Claim World Title

After qualifying in the top position - despite the loss of veteran leader Alicia Sacramone to injury days before– Team USA takes the World Title in team Finals. This is their first team World title since 2007. This is the third world title for the USA, first was in 2003, second in 2007, and third in 2011.
The Women’s Team Final, held in Tokyo, Japan at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, featured USA along with qualifiers (in order), Russia, China, Romania, Japan, Australia, Germany and Great Britain.
The women that competed for the USA are: Douglas; Maroney; Raisman; Sabrina Vega of Carmel, N.Y./Dynamic Gymnastics; and Wieber. Team member Alicia Sacramone of Winchester, Mass./Brestyan's American Gymnastics, who tore her Achilles tendon during training, has returned to the States for medical treatment, and Anna Li of Aurora, Ill./Legacy Elite Gymnastics LLC, is the alternate.
Universal Sports will air same-day coverage on its cable network.
